what to expect

Let’s face it, most of us get that not-so-photogenic-deer-in-the-headlights look when coldly instructed to “act natural” when the camera comes out. You know, that moment we become overly aware of our hands and what the heck to do with them. Don’t stress! By providing the perfect environment for telling your story and a few prompts and tricks of the trade along the way, I make it easy to be yourself and forget about the camera. Enjoying the moment should be the primary focus of your time in front of the lens. The meet + greet serves as a great icebreaker so you won’t feel like you’re sharing intimate moments with a total stranger when it’s time for your shoot. We’ll figure out the best setting for your story and discuss the details of what makes you tick for a tailor-made shoot aimed at making you comfy. Special requests for music, beer, cookies, or drawing a mustache on my face are welcomed ideas to create the right vibe for you!

Don't get me wrong, I could pose you exactly so you would be mistaken for a Kardashian insta post. Suck in the tummy, twist this way, tilt your head that way, nose down...no a little more. Bring your chin down, now out, not that far. Ok now smile...smile more....MORE!

It’s amazing what exchanging focus on tedious details for encouraging genuine expression can capture even in a single photograph. It was a game changer for me as a photographer. I’ll never go back to those old-school photography studio ways! I'll absolutely give you some direction and prompts so you don't feel like you don't know what to do with your hands - Ricky Bobby style - but I'm not going to interrupt the flow and fun of an awesome interaction to make sure every hair is in place for every shot. The best memories are often imperfect ones – those candid moments you’ll never forget. Did you care if your bra strap fell in the picture? Nope. That’s probably part of why you love it so much. You were laughing too hard to care. My objective is to foster your connection with what you feel on the inside more than your outward appearance. I’m after what’s in your heart, not the label on your sleeve.

Like I said, photography is emotional. After all, you are preserving something meaningful to you. When you look back on your memories, my hope is that you feel the memory, not just look at it. Of course I’ll do my thing and help you look your best, but my main purpose is to make you feel your best, which means helping you feel like you. I’ll make small adjustments along the way, as needed, that’s part of my job, but your job is to have a fantastic time and revel in the flow!
